Candle 101
Candle & Wax Melt Care
Caring for your candle and wax melts helps ensure a clean, even burn and a longer-lasting scent experience.
Wick Care
- Trim your wick to ¼" before each burn. A wick trimmer works best.
- If the wick curls or forms a black tip, trim before relighting.
- Avoid trimming too short, as this can cause the wick to drown in wax
The First Burn
Candle wax has a memory.
On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly all the way to the edges of the vessel. A good rule is about 1 hour per inch of the vessel's diameter.
Skipping this step can lead to tunneling and uneven burns.
Burning Guidelines
- Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
- Stop use when ½" of wax remains.
- Always burn on a level, heat-safe surface.
- Keep away from drafts to prevent uneven burning and soot.
- Keep the wax free of debris and flammable materials.
- Use a candle lighter for deeper vessels.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Storage & Safety
- Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- In case of flame, do not use water. Smother the flame instead.
Cleaning Your Vessel
- Remove excess wax.
- Fill with hot water and a small amount of dish soap.
- Let soak, then remove the wick and sticker.
- Repeat if needed, then clean fully with a sponge.
Wax Melt Care
- Do not leave your warmer on overnight or for extended periods.
- Follow your warmer's manufacturer guidelines.
- Do not use high-heat open flames.
- Never boil wax.
- Use inserts for easy scent changes.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Replace wax once the scent fades.
Silk Melt Care
Silk Melts are designed for use on the skin and require slightly different care.
- Melt one or two cubes in a wax warmer.
- Allow the oil to cool slightly before applying to skin.
- Start with a small amount and add more as needed.
- Do not apply hot wax directly to skin.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
Troubleshooting
Tunneling (uneven burn)
- Allow the candle to fully melt to the edges on each burn.
- If tunneling has already occurred, remove excess wax from the sides and continue burning as normal.
Wick drowned in wax
- This can happen if the wick is trimmed too short or excess wax builds up.
- Remove or absorb some wax, then relight once the wick is exposed.
Black soot on vessel
- This usually means the wick is too long. Trim before the next burn.
Wax spill on hard surfaces
- Let wax fully harden, then gently scrape away. Remove residue with an adhesive remover if needed.
Wax spill on carpet
- Allow the wax to fully cool and harden. Place a paper bag or paper towel over the area and gently apply heat, moving continuously until the wax transfers. Replace as needed. Avoid holding heat too close or in one spot.
